HEDict English Vietnamese App Reviews

To help me learn Vietnamese, I open a Vietnamese online newspaper in my browser, open another tab for the Google translator and put this half screen. Other half is HEdictionary. I also have a hard copy pocket dictionary for rare occasions I can’t find a word. Pros: 1. I have found 99% of words I type in. Typing in the exact spelling helps me learn all the letters/accents as well as finding them on my keyboard. 2. Hearing the word pronounced helps a lot. 3. Stores my words to review later/ Con: 1. After I get a rough idea of the transaltion of newspaper article, I use translate to compare Google with my translation. I lose the dictionary and have to click it open. A minor pain.

The preference is in the window. It should be in the tab like another Apple application. It take a while for me to find preference.

The dictionary works like a charm on my Mac OSX Lion at reasonale price. The only downside of this app that make i give it 4 stars is that there is not an option for me to type Vietnamese words like i have in LacViet dictionary. So i have to download the other app from the internet to let me use Vietnamese keyboard. Overall, this is one of the best Vietnamese dictionaries Ive ever use, recommend to everyone.

a better font would be nice.

It has resonable amount of words for looking up. However, one word is available in other source but the main source. I think you should combine or gather all available meanings of a word to one main dictionary, and then that word can be searched for more details in other source.

About a month ago the associated google translation screen stopped working with the Vietnamese font. When you type or paste vietnamese text the translation is gibberish! BUT, if you go directly to google translation from a browser it works fine. Not sure who to blame, but this app was great and is now only ok

The app is unstable on Mac Marvericks! It is forced close all the time!!! Please fix.

Crashes every time I turn tabs or look the second word. Waste of money

This app does not work good on Mac Marvericks. I have to force quit all the time. Please fix it asap. Thanks.

It work well before, but when I upgrade to os x Mavick (10.9). App is freezed every time. I emailed many times since Apple release new update….still not work.

This is a great English-Vietnamese dictionary which support OS X 10.9 well. There are just some minor points that needed to be fixed: 1. Remember the position of Quick Window, whenever I open the Quick Window, I need it to stay at the same place where I set it before instead of moving back to the default position. 2. It is not necessary to hide the "More…” button in the Quick Window, it is currently only show when I do “mouse over” it. 2. When I switch back to the main window and start typing a word, the first letter is not shown in the search box. The program just moves focus to the search box, selecting the existing content, but not replace it with the first character that I just typed

The app works fine but the search requires exact character match, not match all accent variances. i.e. search for ‘hom nay’ will show nothing, instead you have to enter hôm này’, with exact accent marks. This is very inconvient for even native speakers who routinely skip accent marks in text messages, and impossible for non native speaker who often don’t know how to type accent characters at all. Similiar applications on iOS have no problem do ‘fuzzy’ matching, this app should too. Other than the inconvenience, the UI is a bit ugly. But I can live with it if the search is enhanced.

i can’t find any word that I want, but another the dictionary i download on my iphone has all the words I try to search. This is the worst dictionary, and I pay $2.99 for this. It not worth it.
